We provide information on how to handle gas and signal weapons:
1. Acquisition and possession of gas and signal weapons
The acquisition and possession of gas and signal weapons that correspond to the approved design in accordance with Section 8 of the Firearms Act and bear a PTB approval mark, and the associated ammunition, are not subject to a license from the age of 18.
2. Carrying gas and signal weapons
Only those who want to exercise (carry) the actual power of gas and signal weapons outside of their own home, business premises or their own peaceful property require an official permit - small weapon license - (Section 10 Paragraph 4 Sentence 4 in conjunction with Appendix 2 Section 2 Subsection 3 No. 2 and 2.1 WaffG-new).
The small firearms license is issued upon application by the local firearms authority if the applicant is reliable and has personal qualifications. Anyone who only wants to handle gas and signal weapons in their own home, business premises or their own peaceful property does not need a permit. Carrying gas and signal weapons without a small firearms license is a punishable offense.
3. Shooting with gas and signal weapons
Any shooting outside of shooting ranges requires a permit.
Shooting outside of shooting ranges is only permitted without a shooting permit (12 para. 4 WaffG):
a) self-defense, state of emergency
b) with signal weapons during emergency and rescue exercises
c) with firearms from which only cartridge ammunition can be fired
(1) by participants in theater performances and demonstrations that are to be respected in the same way,
(2) to drive away birds in agricultural operations
d) in pacified property - with the permission of the owner of the property rights - with firearms from which only cartridge ammunition can be fired,
e) with blank firing or signal weapons for delivery of start or end signals on behalf of the organizers at sporting events when visual or acoustic signaling is required.
